On April 24, 2012 Ron Ung, Bob Cabeza and Leo Salcido flew to YMCA of the USA headquarters in Chicago, Illinois to present our documentary, ‘A Cambodia Journey’ to the YMCA of the USA team with over 60 of their staff in attendance, including several notable Senior Vice Presidents and Neil Nicoll, CEO of the YMCA of the USA. The showing was a tremendous success where the audience found the documentary to be both “enlightening and inspiring; and were genuinely moved by the story,” Mike Van Haelewyn, Senior Director, Global Initiative International Group, YMCA of the USA. After showing the documentary, we had a 35 minute panel discussion featuring three of the Cambodia Journey participants: Ron Ung, Bob Cabeza, Leo Salcido, joined by Christin Baker, Arts & Humanities Specialist, YMCA of the USA and Boon Chin Tan, Senior Associate Director International Group, YMCA of the USA. Because of this showing, YMCA of the USA is now using the documentary to be shown for their Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), Global Centers for Excellences (GCEs), Engaging Asian Communities, and Newcomer/Immigrant Engagement events. In addition, Ron Ung and Trang Truong, another Cambodian American YMCA of Greater Long Beach staff member who participated in the documentary will be speaking on a panel of for YMCA of the USA at their Emerging Multicultural Leadership Experience (EMLE) conference in October 2012.
